Historic Huntley

History Discussions at Huntley - B65.6135

(Adults) On what grounds could an enslaved person sue for their freedom? How successful were they? Summer intern Catherine Kolo will present her research, sponsored by the Friends of Historic Huntley, on freedom suits and Thomson Francis Mason. How was Mason involved, and what does this tell us about him? Come learn the answers to these questions and more as we consider legal culture in the early nineteenth century and an enslaved person's niche within it.
