Adult Potomac Adventures Camp (Adults)

(Adults) Join our experienced instructors and immerse yourselves in the great outdoors with our all-adult adventure camp. Experience the Potomac River from every angle. Go rock climbing overlooking the river in Carderock MD (transportation not included), do a fish and float trip from Clark’s Branch, and take a guided hike down to Great Falls to learn the history and geography of the gorge and end the week learning primitive skills and enjoying a campfire cookout. Prior fishing/boating experience is not required; beginners welcome. No camp June 19.


Adult Women in the Woods Camp (Adults)

(Adults) Immerse yourselves into the wilderness with our all-adult adventure camp! Join a group of women to learn practical primitive skills and how protect the outdoors through leave no trace principles. Activities include rock climbing along the Potomac in Carderock MD (transportation not included), paddling, fire building, outdoor cooking, archery, setting up a campsite, and foraging. No camp June 19.


Amphibian Adventures After Dark

(5-Adult) Listen to the frogs singing at night and learn how to identify them based on their calls. Program includes a night hike to learn and identify different frog calls and see what other amphibians we can find hiding amongst the shadows.


Anglers & Archers (8-12 yrs.)

(8-12 yrs.) Enjoy this combo camp of two popular outdoor activities- fishing and archery with Baroody. Learn to use a classic bow and arrow, atlatl and other primitive tools. Gain knowledge and experience in fishing using a variety of tackle, both on shore and by boat. No camp July 3.


Animal Ambassadors (6-9 yrs)

(6-9 yrs.) Go hiking to explore our native mammals, birds, fish, insects and reptiles in their habitats. Learn why animals are important to our ecosystem through resident animal interactions, crafts and games. As campers explore in the forest, pond, river and meadow they will learn how animal habitats are being threatened and what they can do to protect them.

Bluebells and Bloodroots

(Adults) Learn to identify Riverbend's beautiful spring ephemerals, and discover the folklore that has grown up around them. Meet at Visitor Center to walk along the banks of the Potomac River. Canceled if it rains.


Bluebells at the Bend

(5-Adult) Celebrate the Virginia Bluebells that carpet the early spring forest! Enjoy wildflower walks, live animals, exhibitors, live music, kids crafts and food. Cost $10 per person online until 4/10 $15 per person day of event admission.


Brownie Scout Badge Workshop

(6-10 yrs.) Join us for this all-day Brownie Girl Scout badge workshop. Hike along our trails, make crafts, play games, meet our resident animals and earn up to 5 different badges in one day. Badges covered are Hiker, Senses, Outdoor Adventurer, Outdoor Art Creator and Eco Friend. Please bring water and pack a lunch. Badges are included in the price.


Camp Riverbend (6-9 yrs)

(6-9 yrs.) In this week-long outdoor sampler, campers will participate in rock climbing, meeting our exhibit animals, fishing, hiking, exploring wildlife and taking a park wagon ride. Different themes each day teach primitive skills while enjoying outdoor recreation and a campfire cookout.

Family Fun Fridays

(All Ages) Come stay and play at our Nature Center on select Fridays of every month. Spend time together as a family reading books, making crafts, playing games, exploring natural objects with a microscope, doing puzzles, digging in the sandbox and many more play opportunities. Enjoy a short presentation or read-aloud story by a naturalist every hour. Each month the space will transform into a different theme and activities will be refreshed so there will always be something new to discover. A staff member will be in the building if you have any questions or need assistance, but this event is designed as self-guided play time accompanied by a parent or guardian. You are not required to stay for the entire length of time. Once you receive a wristband you may come and go as you please.


Fish and Float

(16-Adult) Begin your search for trophy smallmouth bass on the upper Potomac with an experienced instructor. Participants will embark on a wagon ride upstream and float downstream on kayaks in search of smallmouth bass using spinning gear.


Fishing Adventures (12-15 yrs.)

(12-15 yrs.) Fish from the shore and on kayaks as you hone your fishing skills with Baroody's experienced instructors. Throughout the week, campers will use a variety of fishing techniques in preparation for a float trip by kayak for smallmouth bass along the Potomac River. Campers will spend at least 30 hours of the week on a kayak and will be fishing directly from the boat.


Fishing for Parent and Child (5-Adult)

(5-Adult) Learn how to fish alongside your parent or child as you enjoy the scenery around the lake. Gain a better understanding on how to rig and use a fishing rod, how to safely fish, and how we can be environmentally conscious while we fish. Rod and bait will be provided. Participants 16 and older must have a valid Virginia fishing license.


Fishing Fun Patch

(8-14 yrs.) Go on an adventure and learn about fishing at Riverbend Park. Girl scouts will learn about fishing equipment, techniques, regulations and spend an hour fishing on the Potomac River.

Freshwater Fishing Fun Camp (8-12 yrs)

(8-12 yrs.) Gain knowledge and experience in freshwater fishing using a variety of tackle with Baroody. Fish the Potomac River for sunfish, catfish and bass on land and by boat. Learn how to rig and use a fishing rod as well as the safety and importance of catch-and-release fishing. Bring a rod or borrow one from the park.


Games After Dark

(5-Adult) Bring the whole family to celebrate national backyard games week as we run around with flashlights, test our memories, compete in a scavenger hunt, decrypt a secret code, and challenge our 5 senses. Prizes will be won and the evening will conclude with a campfire and smores!


Girl Scout STEM Outdoors Charm Patch

(7-12 yrs.) Experience STEM in the outdoors at your local park! Explore different habitats and learn about the wildlife that call Riverbend park its home. Learn how everything is connected and how to be stewards of the natural world. Earn up to six charms that will attach to a fun patch for the back of your vest. Charms and patch included in the price. Please bring a water bottle and pack a lunch.


Insect Study Merit Badge

Junior Forest Foragers

(7-14 yrs.) Adapted from our popular adult foraging class, this program teaches the basics of sustainable foraging but geared towards a younger audience. Join a naturalist on a hike to learn how to identify plants that are edible and/or medicinal and conclude the class with a delicious, foraged creation made with seasonal plants.


Junior Scout Badge Workshop

(6-12 yrs.) Join us for this all-day Junior Girl Scout badge workshop. Hike along our trails, make crafts, play games, meet our resident animals and earn up to 5 different badges in one day. Badges covered in program are Animal Habitats, Design with Nature, Shapes in Nature, Eco Camper and Flowers. Please bring water and pack a lunch. Badges are included in the price.


Kayak Tour - Moonlight (14-Adult)

(14-Adult) Experience the Potomac River in a new light as we paddle under the moon. Discover the peace and wildlife of the evening river as a guide leads you on a tour through the calmest section of the river during each full moon this summer. No paddling experience necessary. Canceled if inclement weather or hazardous river conditions. Single & tandem kayaks and PFDs are provided. Each individual must register.


Keepers of the Earth Camp (6-9yrs)

(6-9 yrs.) Through the lens of Native American values and culture learn about environmental stewardship and survival skills at Riverbend Park. Delve into the foundations of Earth Science through investigation, exploration, and hands-on experiments. Campers will expand their creativity, self-reliance, and friendships through games, storytelling, arts and crafts, archery and nature hikes. Bring a lunch, snack, and water bottle.


Mammal Study Merit Badge

This program satisfies most of the requirements to earn the badge. Scouts must complete all prework before the start of class. Paddle and Paint the Potomac

(16-Adult) Take a short paddling trip up the Potomac River and take in the beautiful scenery. Stop at an island to paint the scenery then float back to shore. Art supplies provided. Some paddling experience preferred. All participants must sign a boating waiver.


Practical Plants - Foraging for Herbal Remedies

(12-Adult) Learn about the healing power of plants. Discover the herbal remedies and wild edibles of Virginia and how to gather these plants safely and sustainably. Conclude the class with a make-and-take.
