Drawing Insects (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Insects are a wonderful addition to any outdoor sketch. Learn tips for drawing butterflies, moths, beetles and bees using the center’s preserved insect collection, photographs and field guides. Media used will include pencil, colored pencil and watercolor. A suggested list of supplies will be sent upon registration. Check online for additional topics and times.


Drawing Nuts, Seeds, Pods and Berries (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Early winter is a great time to look for nature’s bounty. Learn some tips to identify and draw these beautiful botanical items. First take a short hike to search for these items on the trail, then head inside to try drawing these items yourself using our dried plant/seed collection. Ink pens, colored pencils or watercolors all work well. A suggested list of recommended materials to bring will be sent upon registration. Six foot distancing and masks are required.


Floral Design Workshop-Fruits & Vegetables (16+)

(16-Adult) Fruits and vegetables make beautiful features in floral arrangements if you know how to use them. Certified floral designer Betty Ann Galway will show you which edibles work well in in flower arrangements and demonstrate techniques for incorporating them. You will go home with a stunning arrangement of flowers and edibles to accent your home. Supply fee $30.


Italics (Adults)

(Adults) Italics is the most versatile of alphabets. In addition to miniscule and majascule, variations and flourishing, students are taught to mix watercolor gouache paint to make colored ink and experiment with the colored ink or different colored papers. Bring your tools. Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Nature Photography at Dawn (Adults)

(Adults) What awakens with the sun and how does one capture it? Learn how to use a DSLR and a tripod to capture images of the natural world around us during an early morning and see what wildlife is awake at Huntley. Designed for beginners to intermediate skill levels. Bring your own DSLR camera. Bring your tripod if you have one.


Nature Photography at Huntley Meadows (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Huntley Meadows Park offers some of the best wildlife watching in the Washington metropolitan area; every day and change of season offers something different to see. What stunning photos will you capture? Join park naturalist and professional photographer, Melodie, to learn how to use a DSLR and a tripod to capture images of the natural world. Try a variety of techniques to compose creative images of animals, plants and landscapes. Learn how to upload, enhance, and print images. Class includes taking home two prints of your own work. Designed for beginner to intermediate skill levels. Bring your own DSLR camera. Bring a tripod if you have one. Supply fee of $15 payable at first class.


Sewing 102 (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) Prerequisite: Sewing 101 or equivalent. In this class offered by My Last Gift Sewing Institute, students build on skills learned in Sewing 101 to create more advanced projects including neck pillows and backpacks. Sewing machines and a sewing primer are provided. Supply fee of $35 is payable to instructor at first class and includes project kits.


Sewing 103 (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) Prerequisite: Sewing 102 or equivalent. In this class, offered by My Last Gift Sewing Institute, students build on skills learned in Sewing 102 to make a variety of more advanced hand and machine sewing projects. Sewing machines and a sewing primer are provided. Supply fee of $35 is payable to instructor at first class and includes project kits.


Sewing Workshop-Alterations II (9-Adult)

(9-Adult) In this workshop offered by My Last Gift Sewing Institute, you learn techniques for altering tailored garments such as hemming by hand or machine, taking in/letting out waistlines, shortening sleeves and changing buttons. Skills include measuring using a ruler and tape measure, using commercial patterns, hand and machine sewing and fabric structure. Supply fee of $15 is payable to instructor at the workshop.


Sewing Workshop-Parent & Me Aprons (9+)

(9-Adult) In this class offered by My Last Gift Sewing Institute, learn techniques to make a matching parent/child apron set from a commercial pattern. Skills include properly measuring and altering a commercial pattern, measuring using a ruler and tape measure, using commercial patterns, hand and machine sewing and fabric structure. Both adult and child need to register. Supply fee of $15 is payable to instructor at the workshop.


Sewing-Alterations (9-Adult)

(9-Adult) Revive garments to fit and look better, as well as save you time and money. Learn to shorten/lengthen hems, take in/let out waistlines, shorten sleeves and changing buttons. Techniques include machine and hand sewing. Learn basic sewing skills including using the ruler, proper measuring and how to read a pattern. Garments covered include jeans/tailored pants, suit coats/coats, dresses and shirts. Bring your own garment to class. Supply fee of $35 payable to instructor.


Watercolor Workshop: Orchids (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Some subjects just scream to be painted in watercolors and orchids are one of those subjects. Taught by botanical artist Dawn Flores, plan and execute an orchid-inspired painting. Information on orchid anatomy, lessons on color, and a variety of watercolor techniques and transfer practices are presented. Orchid owners may bring in their own specimen or work from photographs provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for any skill level. Bring a lunch.
