The Fairfax County Park Authority offers a variety of activities such as classes, camps and tours in a wide variety of categories including aquatics, fitness, nature, dance, outdoor recreation, performing arts, history and many more. Special events, trips/tours and specialty workshops are listed in Parktakes, the Park Authority’s quarterly guide, available through free subscription to county citizens. .

Digital Photography II (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Prerequisite: Digital Photography I or equivalent.


Floral Design Workshop-Fruits & Vegetables

(16-Adult) Fruits and vegetables make beautiful features in floral arrangements if you know how to use them. Certified floral designer Betty Ann Galway will show you which edibles work well in in flower arrangements and demonstrate techniques for incorporating them. You will go home with a stunning arrangement of flowers and edibles to accent your home. Supply fee $30.


Illustrating Your Nature/Travel Journal

(16-Adult) Learn how to take your field sketches and turn them into a journal page. Starting with a pencil sketch you can add fine line marker, watercolors or colored pencils. Participate in a lesson of how to use various art media each class. Discover ways to add your photos and mementos to your journal. A suggested list of supplies will be provided when you sign up. $5 material fee due at first class.


Intro to Pastel at Huntley Meadows (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) This class offers an introduction into soft pastel painting, a fun and forgiving medium to use. Local pastel artist Teresa T. Brunson demonstrates pastel painting techniques, mark-making, layering and other tips. All supplies are provided.


Italics (Adults)

(Adults) Italics is the most versatile of alphabets. In addition to miniscule and majascule, variations and flourishing, students are taught to mix watercolor gouache paint to make colored ink and experiment with the colored ink or different colored papers. Bring your tools. Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Sewing-Alterations (9-Adult)

(9-Adult) Revive garments to fit and look better, as well as save you time and money. Learn to shorten/lengthen hems, take in/let out waistlines, shorten sleeves and changing buttons. Techniques include machine and hand sewing. Learn basic sewing skills including using the ruler, proper measuring and how to read a pattern. Garments covered include jeans/tailored pants, suit coats/coats, dresses and shirts. Bring your own garment to class. Supply fee of $35 payable to instructor.
