Acrylic Painting (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Learn acrylic painting basics. Bring a small canvas and painting supplies if you have them. Supply fee of $30 payable to instructor at first class.


Animation Drawing (10-18 yrs)

(10-18 yrs) Learn how to make your characters move and come to life. Students learn how to make a flip-book and other techniques. Supply fee payable to instructor at the first class.


Art Above and Beyond (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) This mixed-media class offers a variety of fun projects including drawing and painting. Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Art at Lake Accotink (7-12 yrs)

(7-12 yrs) Calling all homeschoolers! Learn fundamental skills in a variety of art genres and take home a nature-themed project at the end of each class. A different topic each session: Jan-Drawing; Feb-Painting; Mar-Sewing.


Big, Bold Blooms (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Students create paintings of various sizes using acrylics. Students explore color and design composition, perspective and other elements of design to create authentic and original works. Supply list provided prior to first class.


Calligraphy-Carolingian (Adults)

Prerequisite: Prior Calligraphy class or equivalent experience. This beautiful hand was developed in 9th century France and is a must for any calligrapher's repertoire.


Calligraphy-Copperplate (Adults)

Introduction to the pointed pen and the formal script hand, beginning with the traditional form and progressing to more modern variations. Any supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Cartooning (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) Sharpen your drawing skills, learn how to develop characters and illustrate background to create cartoons. Students must bring a sketch pad and black soft lead pencils (4B and 2H). Supply fee payable to instructor at first class or supply list distributed at the first class.


Digital Photography (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) There's more to photography than just using the automatic setting. Topics include your camera's controls, resolution, flash, composition, stop motion, close ups and more. Course includes weekly assignments with reviews. Software and printing are also covered. Any supply fee payable to instructor at first class. ~

Drawing 101 (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Caroline Hottenstein teaches the drawing basics through a series of exercises and demonstrations. Learn about line, positive and negative space, form perspective, value, light source and composition. Practice sketching, rendering,and contour using different paper types and graphite you turn a composition into a refined drawing. Supply list will be sent before class. Bring a lunch.


Drawing Comic Strips (8-12 yrs)

(8-12 yrs) Learn to create a cartoon comic strip by turning a funny story and your unique character into a series of funny drawings using pencil sketches, inking and color to express your humor. Create your own cast of characters, settings and drawing style in classic comic strip layouts. Bring to class a 2B pencil, eraser and a sketch pad. List of required art supplies provided at first class.


Drawing Insects (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Insects are a wonderful addition to any outdoor sketch. Learn tips for drawing butterflies, moths, beetles and bees using the center’s preserved insect collection, photographs and field guides. Media used will include pencil, colored pencil and watercolor. A suggested list of supplies will be sent upon registration.

Floral Design Workshop-Birdnest Bouquet 16+

(16-Adult) Take your design skill to the next level with the creation of a floral design armature, a wonderful mechanic for supporting blossoms in a floral arrangement. Certified Floral Designer Betty Ann Galway takes you step-by-step in creating a stick armature “birdnest” to fill with spring flowers.


Floral Design: Late Spring Arrangement

(16-Adult) Make a late-spring floral arrangement with the help of certified floral designer Betty Ann Galway. Betty Ann will teach you about the different flowers in the arrangement and how to incorporate them into a beautiful design. Take your beautiful arrangement home and later, use your floral container to practice what you learned at home.


Floral Design-Floral Design Day (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Celebrate National Floral Design Day in style-High Style. Treat yourself by bringing home flowers that you've arranged like a professional. Later you can use your container to practice what you have learned. Supply fee of $30.


Fun with Clay! (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) Students make a variety of simple projects with clay while learning the basics of working with clay. Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.
