Advanced Watercolor (Adults)

(Adults) Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor instructor approval. Course offers a focused study on combining the various techniques learned previous level classes, applying more advanced composition, and constructively evaluating and improving a painting.


Animals in Art (6-12 yrs.)

(6-12 yrs.) Class focuses on capturing the beauty of animals, from pets to wildlife, using a variety of mediums including acrylic, soft pastels and watercolor. Students learn the basics of composition, balance and texture, and study how artists have depicted animals throughout history. A supply fee of $20 is payable to the instructor at the first class.


Art Above & Beyond (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) This mixed-media class offers a variety of fun projects including drawing and painting. Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Art Journalling (Adults)

(Adults) Connect with your creativity through this guided art journaling experience, and to transform an ordinary composition notebook into a Cosmic Smashbook art journal. Each week students explore a new journal prompt and create an easy art project using a variety of techniques including painting, collage and mixed media. Journals will be provided. No artistic talent needed!


Art Workshop - Hanji Collage

(16-Adult) Discover the Korean cultural art of Hanji in this creative, hands-on workshop led by Sophia Han from The Hanji Korea Association. Using torn pieces of vibrantly colored Hanji paper, an awl and glue, you’ll learn how to craft distinguished, textured images. Made from mulberry bark, Hanji’s unique balance of toughness and fragility allows for limitless artistic possibilities. No prior experience is required. Please register for the $44 class and $17 supply fee.


Beginning Crocheting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) This beginner crochet class is for students with little to no experience. It introduces essential skills such as making a slip knot, holding the hook and yarn, creating a foundation chain and working basic stitches (chain, single, half double and double crochet). With step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice, students receive individual guidance as they learn. By the end of the class, students will have a strong foundation and the confidence to continue crocheting on their own. Bring one crochet hook in size G (6), H (8), I (9) or J (10) and a skein of light colored four-ply worsted weight yarn. Any supply fee payable to instructor at class.


Cartooning (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) Sharpen your drawing skills, learn how to develop characters and illustrate background to create cartoons. Students must bring a sketch pad and black soft lead pencils (4B and 2H). Supply fee payable to instructor at first class or supply list distributed at the first class.


Cell Phone Photography (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Smartphones have tremendous power to take great photos if you know what you are doing. In this class, we will explore the wonders and push the limits of cell phone photography. We will cover how to create photos with depth, stop and capture motion, editing and how to take good photos in low light.


Chinese Calligraphy (8-Adult)

(8-Adult) Embrace the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy which helps with cultivating mindfulness, reducing stress and sharpening focus while developing artistic appreciation connecting with Chinese culture and history. This immersive brush calligraphy course is designed for all levels, from complete beginners to those wishing to deepen their practice. $20 supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Cozy Creations and Winter Wellness Workshop

(14-Adult) Learn to crochet a bucket hat and discover essential self-care practices for winter. Designed for intermediate crocheters, enjoy a relaxing environment to enhance your skills and connect with others. Discuss self-care techniques and take a nature walk for inspiration. Drawing and Investigating Owls (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Learn about owl adaptations as you draw owl feathers, skulls and taxidermy mounts. Go on a hike to learn about owl habitats, then dissect your own owl pellet to figure out what owls eat and draw some of the bones. Your choice of watercolor, colored pencil or ink pens.


Drawing and Learning About Mushrooms

(16-Adult) Early fall is a great time to look for fungi in the woodlands. Learn some categories of local fungi based on shapes and learn tips for drawing in the field. We will try some field sketching too. Your choice of pencil or watercolor. Dress for the weather.


Drawing Beetles and Bugs (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Beetles and bugs are everywhere from logs, to forests, gardens and even in the water. Learn some natural history, anatomy and tips for drawing the Coleoptera and Hemiptera families. We will draw from the center’s preserved insect collection as well as from photos and field guides. Your choice of watercolors or colored pencil.


Drawing Workshop - Dried Botanicals

(16-Adult) Discover the textures and forms of dried botanicals such as pinecones, leaves, seed pods and preserved flowers. Artist and instructor Caroline Hottenstein shows you how to use the media of your choice - a micron pen, watercolor, graphite or colored pencils to illustrate them. Bring specimens or photos to work from. Previous drawing experience encouraged. A supply list will be emailed before class. Bring a lunch.


Floral Workshop - Gourd-geous Arrangements

(16-Adult) Create an eye-catching succulent plant and pumpkin arrangement with dried flower details. Mix balance, scale, proportion and contrast to add flair to your fall decor. Your guests will be impressed with this conversation piece. Please register for the program and supply fee.

Furniture Facelift (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Learn how to transform a small piece of furniture in this workshop. All you need is a little paint and wax to give an old piece of furniture a lovely new look. Skills include prepping, sanding, and painting. Bring your own small piece of furniture to the class. A supply fee may be payable to the instructor at the first class.


Future Artists by Vendor (5-9 yrs.)

(5-9 yrs.) Artists are introduced to painting, drawing, watercolors, self-portraits and clay creation in this class offered by Athletes Global. Students create various projects throughout the class and present their favorite creation at the end of the program.


Ikebana Floral Design Workshop (Adults)

(16-Adult) Discover the elegance and simplicity of Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. Alice Buch, Associate 1st Degree Master of the Ohara School, teaches you the basic techniques and principles of Ikebana while demonstrating a Hana Isho Rising Form arrangement that you will then get to make yourself. Supplies included are a plastic container, kenzan, and flowers. Participants are encouraged to bring their own flower scissors. No prior experience necessary. Please register for both the class and the $30 supply fee.


Intro to Flower Arrangements (Adults)

(Adults) Create beautiful floral arrangements with live flowers in this hands-on workshop. Floral arrangements are a simple and effective way to add drama to table decorations and create bright, festive and fresh room décor. Supply fee of $20 payable at class.


Intro to Wildlife Photography

(12-Adult) Join our park naturalist on a hike and explore wild plants and animals throughout the trails. Learn how to take pictures of things you find along the way. Smart phones, cameras and binoculars welcome. Each hike will feature a view of the marina, facts about the wildlife at the park and an intro on how to take great pictures of our local flora and fauna.


Knitting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Master knitting basics. Students learn knitting techniques and terminology and how to choose materials.

Landscape Painting (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Students will use design elements such as lines, shapes, values and spatial relation, to create landscape paintings. Students construct and deconstruct landscapes from realism to abstract. Bring watercolor paper and water-based medium watercolors or acrylics. Additional supply list provided before start of class.


Master Watercolor Studio (Adults)

(Adults) Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor. Class provides experienced artists focused art time and an opportunity to work independently with the mentorship and support of the instructor and their peers. Students learn to finesse their skills, evaluate technique options, plan pieces and make stronger decisions on how to start, progress and complete their own unique art pieces.


Mixed Media Painting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) In this mixed media class students create works using basic techniques in acrylic, ink, watercolor and pastels. Supply fee of $40 payable to instructor at first class.
