Advanced Watercolor (Adults)

(Adults) Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor instructor approval. Course offers a focused study on combining the various techniques learned previous level classes, applying more advanced composition, and constructively evaluating and improving a painting.


Anime & Cartoon Drawing Class (6-12 yrs) by Vendor

(6-12 yrs.) This Athletes Global program teaches students how to draw manga, anime and cartoon style themes and techniques. Participants will learn Japanese culture through fun crafts, activities and games.


Art Workshop - Hanji Collage

(16-Adult) Discover the Korean cultural art of Hanji in this creative, hands-on workshop led by Sophia Han from The Hanji Korea Association. Using torn pieces of vibrantly colored Hanji paper, an awl and glue, you’ll learn how to craft distinguished, textured images. Made from mulberry bark, Hanji’s unique balance of toughness and fragility allows for limitless artistic possibilities. No prior experience is required. Please register for the $44 class and $17 supply fee.


Cartooning (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Sharpen your drawing skills, learn how to develop characters and illustrate background to create cartoons. Students must bring a sketch pad and black soft lead pencils (4B and 2H). Supply fee payable to instructor at first class or supply list distributed at the first class.


Colorful Art by Abrakadoodle (6-12 yrs) by Vendor

(6-12 yrs.) Young artists will create colorful paintings, imaginative drawings, and unique sculptures using watercolors, modeling compounds and paints. Practice “masking” while painting an abstract forest. Students will take an imaginary tour to New England and paint lighthouse scenes. Supply fee of $32 payable to instructor at first class.


Crochet Cute Animals (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) Now that you have learned the basics put those skills to use creating cute and simple animals such as cats, sting rays, puppies and piggies. Any supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Crocheting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) This beginner crochet class is for students with little to no experience. It introduces essential skills such as making a slip knot, holding the hook and yarn, creating a foundation chain and working basic stitches (chain, single, half double and double crochet). With step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice, students receive individual guidance as they learn. By the end of the class, students will have a strong foundation and the confidence to continue crocheting on their own. Bring one crochet hook in size G (6), H (8), I (9) or J (10) and a skein of light colored four-ply worsted weight yarn. Any supply fee payable to instructor at class.

(13-Adult) There's more to photography than just using the automatic setting. Topics include your camera's controls, resolution, flash, composition, stop motion and close ups. Drawing Workshop - Historical Architecture

(16-Adult) Capture the character and quiet grandeur of Virginia’s historic architecture in your artwork. Artist and instructor Caroline Hottenstein shows you how to use the media of your choice - a micron pen, watercolor, graphite or colored pencils to illustrate them. Bring photos of your favorite historic building or take a photo of Green Spring Garden’s Historic House to work from.  Previous drawing experience encouraged. Fun with Acrylics (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Class introduces you to acrylics in a fun and pressure-free way. Learn to make simple paintings using acrylic paints on canvas as you explore color, texture, composition and design. Supply fee of $40 payable to instructor at first class.


Future Artists by Vendor (5-9 yrs.)

(5-9 yrs.) Artists are introduced to painting, drawing, watercolors, self-portraits and clay creation in this class offered by Athletes Global. Students create various projects throughout the class and present their favorite creation at the end of the program.


Illustrating Your Nature/Travel Journal

(16-Adult) Learn how to take your field sketches and turn them into a journal page. Starting with a pencil sketch you can add fine line marker, watercolors or colored pencils. Discover ways to add photos and mementos to your journal. A supply list will be sent before class starts.


Intro to Crochet (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) This course introduces students to crochet basic such as stitches, types of yarn and pattern reading. Students will make a hat and scarf. All supplies are provided. No previous experience is needed.


Intro to Flower Arrangements (Adults)

(Adults) Create beautiful floral arrangements with live flowers in this hands-on workshop. Floral arrangements are a simple and effective way to add drama to table decorations and create bright, festive and fresh room décor. Supply fee of $20 payable at class.


Knitting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Master knitting basics. Students learn knitting techniques and terminology and how to choose materials.

Landscape Painting (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Students will use design elements such as lines, shapes, values and spatial relation, to create landscape paintings. Students construct and deconstruct landscapes from realism to abstract. Master Watercolor Studio (Adults)

(Adults) Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor. Class provides experienced artists focused art time and an opportunity to work independently with the mentorship and support of the instructor and their peers. Students learn to finesse their skills, evaluate technique options, plan pieces and make stronger decisions on how to start, progress and complete their own unique art pieces.


Mixed Media Painting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) In this mixed media class students create works using basic techniques in acrylic, ink, watercolor and pastels. Supply fee of $40 payable to instructor at first class.


Needle Felting Workshop

(16-Adult) Learn the basic skills and shapes to felt wool into animals, and practice as you make needle felted birds to take home. Spend an afternoon learning and creating animals that make wonderful decorations and gifts. All supplies for two birds included. Take home a felting kit to continue crafting at home.


Paper Quilling 3D Mushroom Garden

(8-Adult) Discover how to turn simple looking colorful paper strips into beautiful work of art. In this workshop you will create 3D colorful mushrooms and mount them on the wooden disc. This 3D mushroom garden will be perfect for home decor as well as gift giving. A $25 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class.

(16-Adult) Learn how to bring your landscapes to life by focusing on the natural elements. Artist and instructor Marni Maree guides you through techniques to paint rocks, trees, water and leaves with texture, depth and lively details to create your own landscapes. Watercolor Workshop - Orchids (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Some subjects just scream to be painted in watercolors and orchids are one of those subjects. Taught by botanical artist Dawn Flores, plan and execute an orchid-inspired painting. Information on orchid anatomy, lessons on color, and a variety of watercolor techniques and transfer practices are presented. Orchid owners may bring in their own specimen or work from photographs provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for any skill level. A supply list will be emailed before class.
