Advanced Watercolor (Adults)

(Adults) Prerequisite: Intermediate Watercolor instructor approval. Course offers a focused study on combining the various techniques learned previous level classes, applying more advanced composition, and constructively evaluating and improving a painting.


Animals in Art (6-12 yrs.)

(6-12 yrs.) Class focuses on capturing the beauty of animals, from pets to wildlife, using a variety of mediums including acrylic, soft pastels and watercolor. Students learn the basics of composition, balance and texture, and study how artists have depicted animals throughout history. A supply fee of $20 is payable to the instructor at the first class.


Art Above & Beyond (6-12 yrs)

Cell Phone Photography (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Smartphones have tremendous power to take great photos if you know what you are doing. In this class, we will explore the wonders and push the limits of cell phone photography. We will cover how to create photos with depth, stop and capture motion, editing and how to take good photos in low light.


Ceramic Creations (6-8 yrs.)

(6-8 yrs.) Young artists sculpt and create works of art using air dry clay. The entire creative process of sculpting with clay from idea to set-up, clean up and clay storage will be covered.


Chinese Calligraphy (8-Adult)

(8-Adult) Embrace the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy which helps with cultivating mindfulness, reducing stress and sharpening focus while developing artistic appreciation connecting with Chinese culture and history. Colored Pencil and Acrylic Workshop

(16-Adult) Colored pencils and acrylic layering is a fantastic technique for building up soft textures, sharp edges, and rich colors. Drawing from colorful photographs or still-life objects of flora and fauna, artist Dawn Flores helps you explore the techniques used to take colored pencils a step beyond their traditional use. Colorful Art by Abrakadoodle (6-12 yrs) by Vendor

(6-12 yrs.) Young artists will create colorful paintings, imaginative drawings, and unique sculptures using watercolors, modeling compounds and paints. (Adults) Students learn the rules and theories of composition in art through pictures and exercises, then will apply these them to their own artwork. Topics include the rule of thirds, the golden ratio and elements of composition. Class is for all skill levels.


Cosmic Smash Book Art Journalling (Adults)

(Adults) Connect with your creativity through Cosmic Smash Booking, a guided art journaling experience, and to transform an ordinary composition notebook into a Cosmic Smashbook art journal. Drawing and Investigating Owls (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Learn about owl adaptations as you draw owl feathers, eggs, talons, skulls and taxidermy mounts. Go on a hike to learn about owl habitats, then dissect your own owl pellet to figure out what owls eat and draw some of the bones. Your choice of watercolor, colored pencil or ink pens.


Drawing Beetles and Bugs (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Beetles and bugs are everywhere from logs, to forests, gardens and even in the water. Learn some natural history, anatomy and tips for drawing the Coleoptera and Hemiptera families. We will draw from the center’s preserved insect collection as well as from photos and field guides. Your choice of watercolors or colored pencil.


Drawing with Color (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Class focuses on drawing fundamentals, such as lines, angles, and shading from light to dark shades as well as developing an eye for forms, shapes and details. Students learn to present the speed of action using by lines, colors and motions. Color values, saturations and temperature, warm light and cool shadow will also be covered.


Drawing Workshop - Butterflies and Plants

(16-Adult) Explore the beauty of butterflies and their dependence on plants for their life cycle. Use specimens or photographs to study and illustrate them. Artist and instructor Caroline Hottenstein shows you how to use the media of your choice - a micron pen, watercolor, graphite or colored pencils to capture and highlight details. Previous drawing experience encouraged. A supply list will be emailed before class. Bring a lunch.


Felting Basics - Make a Rabbit

(16-Adult) Learn the basic skills and shapes to felt wool into animals, and practice as you make a bunny to take home. Spend two evenings at Colvin Run Mill creating a charming, felted toy rabbit. These animals make wonderful decorations and gifts.


Floral Design Workshop-Branches, Blooms & Balance

(16-Adult) Explore the art of contemporary floral arranging using natural branches and seasonal flowers cultivated at Green Spring Gardens. Horticulturist, Parker Jennings guides you in creating a striking winter arrangement that emphasizes balance, line, and form. Discover how to transform simple materials into an elegant, sculptural centerpiece that reflects the quiet beauty of the season. Please register for the workshop and the $30 supply fee.


Flowers in Art (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Capture the beauty of flowers using a variety of mediums including acrylic, soft pastels and watercolor. Composition, balance, texture and color blending are covered. A supply fee of $25 is payable to the instructor at the first class.
