Art Workshop - Hanji Collage

(16-Adult) Discover the Korean cultural art of Hanji in this creative, hands-on workshop led by Sophia Han from The Hanji Korea Association. Using torn pieces of vibrantly colored Hanji paper, an awl and glue, you’ll learn how to craft distinguished, textured images. Made from mulberry bark, Hanji’s unique balance of toughness and fragility allows for limitless artistic possibilities. No prior experience is required. Please register for the $44 class and $17 supply fee.


Crocheting (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) This beginner crochet class is for students with little to no experience. It introduces essential skills such as making a slip knot, holding the hook and yarn, creating a foundation chain and working basic stitches (chain, single, half double and double crochet). With step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice, students receive individual guidance as they learn. By the end of the class, students will have a strong foundation and the confidence to continue crocheting on their own. Bring one crochet hook in size G (6), H (8), I (9) or J (10) and a skein of light colored four-ply worsted weight yarn. Any supply fee payable to instructor at class.

(8-12 yrs.) Students receive individual attention based on skill level. Class covers basic stitches and pattern reading. Bring one crochet hook in size G (6), H (8), I (9) or J (10) and a skein of light colored four-ply worsted weight yarn. Any supply fee payable to instructor at class.


Digital Photography (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) There's more to photography than just using the automatic setting. Topics include your camera's controls, resolution, flash, composition, stop motion and close ups. Course includes weekly assignments with reviews. Software and printing are also covered. Any supply fee is payable to instructor at first class.


Discover Drawing I (6-12 yrs)

(6-12 yrs) This course teaches fundamental drawing skills through various techniques and projects. Students need to bring an 11"x14" sketch pad and two drawing pencils (HB & 6B). Supply fee payable to instructor at first class.


Drawing Workshop - Historical Architecture

(16-Adult) Capture the character and quiet grandeur of Virginia’s historic architecture in your artwork. Artist and instructor Caroline Hottenstein shows you how to use the media of your choice - a micron pen, watercolor, graphite or colored pencils to illustrate them. Bring photos of your favorite historic building or take a photo of Green Spring Garden’s Historic House to work from.  Previous drawing experience encouraged. A supply list will be emailed before class. Bring a lunch.


Fun with Acrylics (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Class introduces you to acrylics in a fun and pressure-free way. Learn to make simple paintings using acrylic paints on canvas as you explore color, texture, composition and design. Supply fee of $40 payable to instructor at first class.


Illustrating Your Nature/Travel Journal

(16-Adult) Learn how to take your field sketches and turn them into a journal page. Starting with a pencil sketch you can add fine line marker, watercolors or colored pencils. Discover ways to add photos and mementos to your journal. A supply list will be sent before class starts.


Intro to Flower Arrangements (Adults)

(Adults) Create beautiful floral arrangements with live flowers in this hands-on workshop. Floral arrangements are a simple and effective way to add drama to table decorations and create bright, festive and fresh room décor. Supply fee of $20 payable at class.


Needle Felting Workshop

(16-Adult) Learn the basic skills and shapes to felt wool into animals, and practice as you make needle felted birds to take home. Spend an afternoon learning and creating animals that make wonderful decorations and gifts. All supplies for two birds included. Take home a felting kit to continue crafting at home.


Paper Quilling 3D Mushroom Garden

(8-Adult) Discover how to turn simple looking colorful paper strips into beautiful work of art. In this workshop you will create 3D colorful mushrooms and mount them on the wooden disc. This 3D mushroom garden will be perfect for home decor as well as gift giving. A $25 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class.


Paper Quilling Butterfly Garden Frame

(8-Adult) Paper quilling, also known as filigree, is the art of coiling strips of paper rolls and then shaping them into beautiful works of art. Discover how to turn colorful paper strips into beautiful butterflies and flowers, then frame them in a 5"x7" shadow box. Supply fee of $30 payable to instructor at first class.


Paper Quilling Jewelry (8-Adult)

(8-Adult) Discover how to turn simple looking paper strips into beautiful works of art. Use colorful coiled strips to create beautiful and colorful earrings and pendants which are sturdy yet light. Supply fee of $25 payable to instructor at class.


Paper Quilling-Sunflower Mandala Frames 8+

(8-Adult) Discover how to turn simple looking colorful paper strips into beautiful work of art. In this workshop you will create beautiful mandala using quilling sunflower and leaves to be framed in a 5" by 5" shadow box. This frame is perfect for home décor or gift giving. A $30 supply fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class.

(16-Adult) Introduction to intermediate instruction using pinch, slab and coil methods to create either functional or abstract pieces. Glazing and techniques for textures and other decorations are included. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay and three hours of lab time. Cancellation of a pottery class on or after the first class will result in a $75 nonrefundable fee for program materials and supply costs.~

(6-9 yrs) Introduction to clay and the pottery-making process using hand-building methods. Make pinch pots and learn coiling, slab work techniques, painting, glazing and firing.

Sketching along the Lakeside (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Walk with a naturalist by the lakeside and learn techniques and tips for drawing the natural world. Gain a better understanding of how to utilize different sketching and observational skills. Bring the medium of your choice to the class.


Watercolor Workshop - Natural Elements

(16-Adult) Learn how to bring your landscapes to life by focusing on the natural elements. Artist and instructor Marni Maree guides you through techniques to paint rocks, trees, water and leaves with texture, depth and lively details to create your own landscapes. Watercolor Workshop - Orchids (16-Adult)

(16-Adult) Some subjects just scream to be painted in watercolors and orchids are one of those subjects. Taught by botanical artist Dawn Flores, plan and execute an orchid-inspired painting. Information on orchid anatomy, lessons on color, and a variety of watercolor techniques and transfer practices are presented. Orchid owners may bring in their own specimen or work from photographs provided by the instructor. This class is appropriate for any skill level. A supply list will be emailed before class. Writing Workshop - Historical Fiction

(16-Adult) Learn the basics of writing historical fiction—how to build setting, characters and stories inspired by the past. We’ll explore the life of the Straight family, who lived in the house during the 1900s, and use their history to spark creative ideas. Perfect for beginners and anyone who loves history and storytelling.


Writing Workshop - Nature in Fiction

(16-Adult) Explore how to incorporate the beauty, power, and symbolism of nature into your storytelling. Learn techniques for using the natural world to enhance atmosphere, develop characters, and enrich plotlines across genres. Then, take a walk through the gardens for inspiration, followed by a guided writing session to practice weaving your surroundings into your work. Bring a pen, notebook or any tool that helps your words take root.
