ARC Wilderness & Remote First Aid 15+

(15-Adult) This American Red Cross course will provide individuals a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response. This includes wilderness and remote environments, including urban disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes.


Bald Eagle Boat Tour (5-Adult)

(5-Adult) Head out onto the water on the tour boat to circle Vesper Island and search the skies and trees for bald eagles. Meet at the marina, bring binoculars and dress for the weather.


Beginning Bird Watching (14-Adult)

(14-Adult) Birding is a hobby that can last a lifetime and Riverbend Park is a great place to start your adventure. This class covers birding basics including how to use binoculars and other equipment, the importance of a field guide and other strategies for identifying different types of birds.


Birding by Kayak-Single (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Enjoy a naturalist-led birding trip by kayak. Lake Accotink is home to more than 100 species of birds and holds many unique habitats. See how these small vessels can provide a closer look into the world of birds. Travel in a one-person kayak.


Birding for Beginners (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) Interested in birding? We can get you started. Learn about the park's birds and some basic identification skills. Program begins with an indoor discussion. Children age 12 to 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.


Birding on the Boat (8-Adult)

(8-Adult) Enjoy a naturalist led bird program aboard a tour boat. This voyage gives you a closer look at some of the birds and animals that call the Burke Lake home. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult.


Birding the Cross County Trail 8+

(8-Adult) Enjoy a leisurely walk along Fairfax County's Cross County Trail. This unique trail meanders along different habitats that attract many bird species. Meet at Lake Accotink, bring binoculars and wear comfortable shoes for walking.


Camping 101-Prep is the first Step

(7-Adult) Camping is a wonderful way to get outdoors and explore nature, but there are a lot of daunting trials to get past. What to pack, what animals to be wary of, what weather to worry about, what to do in an emergency situation, and what to do when you’re lost. This program will inform you of safe practices in the wild, what gear to bring for short and long trips, and how to make sure that you are prepared for anything when you go camping.


Full Moon Boat Tour (6-Adult)

(6-Adult) Enjoy a picturesque night under the full moon aboard the Burke Lake Park tour boat. Test your listening and observation skills to spot local wildlife with one of our naturalists.


Geocaching Workshop (8-Adult)

(8-Adult) Students learn to use hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) units to locate hidden treasure caches within the park. After learning how to enter latitude and longitude coordinates into a GPS, students follow the coordinates to find a hidden object, container or unique geological feature. Bring your own GPS; a limited number are available to borrow from instructor at class.


Intro to Kayaking (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) This introductory-level class is perfect for beginners or for those who want to learn how to paddle more efficiently. Learn about different kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices and safety gear. On the water, learn to move the boat in every direction using forward and reverse strokes, a turning stroke, a slice stroke and stopping maneuvers.

(13-Adult) Learn mountain biking fundamentals, improve your fitness level and learn to safely navigate your way to fun. Bike care topics are also covered. Helmets required. Bring your own mountain bike, water and dress for the weather. Class meets rain or shine.


Kayak Tour-Seneca to Riverbend (14-Adult

(14-Adult) This eight-mile river journey begins in the lazy waters above the old Seneca Dam. Then this lake-like stretch the pace quickens through riffles and small rapids as we weave through Seneca Breaks, glide past Watkins Island and finally turn the bend to Riverbend. Previous kayaking experience is required for this tour. Kayaks provided, one person per kayak. Download waiver and bring completed forms to tour. https://go.usa.gov/xnJUB. Night Kayaking (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Enjoy Lake Accotink after dark in a kayak. Many nocturnal animals come out after dark and the view from a kayak is a great way to see them. Bring flashlights and dress for the activity.


Spring Family Campout (5-Adult)

(5-Adult) Burke Lake Park is the perfect setting for a family campout and we’re making it even better. Join us for planned events such as a campground orientation, a reptile and amphibian show, guided night hike, campfire with s’mores, tour boat ride, fishing with a naturalist and a canoe or rowboat rental for each family. All the programs above and one campsite with one bundle of wood is included with each registration. Program starts at 2pm on Saturday and ends at 11am on Sunday. One registration per family.


Twilight by Kayak (12-Adult)

(12-Adult) Watch the sunset on the lake as the wildlife settles in for the night, then return to the dock by the light of the moon. Single kayaks and all equipment provided.
