3D Leather Embossing Workshop (6-12) w/parent

(6-12 yrs.) In this workshop students design and 3D-print an embossing tool for making leather patches and key fobs. This class is for those that have taken 3D printing basics or have a working knowledge of TinkerCAD. This course covers the steps needed to create designs. There will be two sessions of two hours on consecutive weekends. We will print one design per person which be available for pick up at the rec center one week after the second class. Bring a laptop and a mouse. $15 materials fee. Adult participation required.


3D Printing Basics (13-Adult)

(13-Adult) Whether you're a curious beginner or an enthusiast eager to explore the latest technology, this hands-on course will take you on a captivating journey. Expert instructors will guide you through understanding the basics of 3D printing to creating and printing your own designs. Unleash your creativity and be amazed at the endless possibilities of this innovative and transformative technology. No prior experience required. A laptop or tablet with mouse and an email address are required. A Fairfax County library card number is recommended. There will be a $15 materials fee.


3D Printing Basics with Parent (6-12 yrs.)

(6-12 yrs.) Designed especially for young curious minds, this course introduces children and their parent to 3D printing. Through fun and age-appropriate activities, students the basics of 3D design and witness their creations come to life as tangible objects. From custom toys to personalized backpack tags, this class is an exciting adventure of creativity and technology. No prior experience needed. A laptop or tablet, Fairfax County library card and an email address are required. There will be a $15 materials fee.


Amusement Park Engineers (7-12 yrs.)

(7-12 yrs.) In this Snapology class students design their own amusement park in this super fun program! Learn how to use LEGO® bricks and other building materials to make coasters and other awesome rides. Can you design the next big theme park adventure?


Battle Robots (7-12 yrs.) by Vendor

(7-12 yrs.) Learn engineering strategies for building sturdy structures using unique RoboThink bricks, and then apply that knowledge to build multiple robots for a variety of friendly competitions. You'll have a blast as you play robot soccer, compete in robot relay races, and complete dozens of other fun challenges in this RoboThink program.


Boardwalk Astronomy

(8-Adult) Join a park naturalist as they take you on a tour of constellations, comets and other current events happening in the skies above. Children must be accompanied by adult also registered in the program.


Coding with Scratch: Beginners Arcade (6-9 yrs.)

(6-9 yrs.) In this CyberTeck class students can transform their love of games into a start down the path of learning to code! This introductory game coding course uses Scratch, a coding tool developed by M.I.T. for elementary students. Using Scratch’s powerful visual coding interface students will be able to create scripts that can control art assets they create with only minimal typing. A perfect starting point for learning coding, logic, and game design skills. Games in this class are a Frogger/Crossy Road style game and a Starship shooting game like Galaga, Galaxian, and similar titles.


Coding with Scratch: Intermediate Games 10-14 yrs.

(10-14 yrs.) Whether your child has used Scratch before or is just stepping into the world of coding, this CyberTeck class is an ideal place for older elementary students to advance their coding skills. Students will make unique versions of popular games focusing complexity or advanced features. Students create a Tower Defense game, where a horde of enemies attempts to reach their base but can be stopped by upgradable towers placed along their path.


eSports Class (11-17 yrs.)

(11-17 yrs.) In this interactive gaming class gamers are in a classroom setting where they can learn and gain tips from others plus receive coaching on strategic game play. Participants will make new friends, have fun playing games and feel safe in an inclusive environment. This session features the Nintendo Switch platform with various games.


GameBots (7-12 yrs.)

(7-12 yrs.) Calling all gamers! Have a blast learning how to code while building robotic games to test your code in this Snapology class. Students learn about sequencing commands, value and sensor inputs and loops. Whether creating a robotic hockey player, pinball machine or a ring toss, your child is sure to have fun building, learning and playing.


LEGO Aquatic Bots (5-8 yrs.) by Vendor

(5-8 yrs.) Make LEGO® WeDo 2.0 AquaBots in this Baroody Camps robotics class. Each day students build and code a different water-themed robot using LEGO® gears, pulleys, axles, motors and sensors. Make boats, seaplanes, ocean explorers and robotic denizens of the deep.


LEGO Spike Essential Robotics (6-11 yrs) by Vendor

(6-11 yrs.) In this Baroody Camps program students have the opportunity to build and code their very own robots using LEGO® SPIKEâ„¢ kits. By integrating LEGO® blocks with codeable hubs, cameras, sensors, and using Scratch-based programming, students create robots that dance, sense objects, follow routes and even drive themselves. Projects throughout this course provide a little taste of how robotics can be applied, such as amusement parks, automotives and outdoor exploration.


Night Sky Tour at the Roll-Top Observatory

(8-Adult) Take a tour of planets, constellations, stars, nebulas and galaxies in the night sky at Turner Farm Observatory Park using telescopes or just your eyes. In case of inclement weather, we will discuss and show images of objects that could be observed in clear skies. No knowledge of astronomy is needed. The course is held rain or clear skies in the Roll-Top Observatory at Turner Farm Park.


Roblox Imaginative Game Design (10-14 yrs.)

(10-14 yrs.) In this CyberTeck course, students build their coding and game design skills using Roblox Studio and the Lua programming language. They learn key coding basics while creating a fun obstacle course–style game. This class helps prepare students for future math and computer science courses and is perfect for kids interested in becoming game developers, computer engineers, or tech entrepreneurs—all while learning in a fun, engaging way.

(6-10 yrs.) Discover how flight developed from birds and insects to balloons and kites, then to planes and rockets. Conduct hands-on experiments to see how lift, drag, weight and thrust make flying possible.


Science Meets History - Spies

(6-10 yrs.) Get ready for a little deception, secret messaging and eavesdropping. Learn the science of spying and create your own secret messages and practice a few of these skills yourself.


Science Potions & Explosions (6-9 yrs.) by Vendor

(6-9 yrs.) In this Baroody Camps class, students create potions and exciting chemical reactions. Erupt a volcano, make indoor snow, step inside a giant bubble, grow a giant crystal or blast a rocket into the air while learning about the states of matter and how things change with mixtures, solutions, and chemical reactions.


Science-Make It or Break It by Vendor (6-8 yrs.)

(6-8 yrs.) Engineers are dreamers, planners, problem solvers and tinkerers. In this class students take on projects and hands-on challenges, in hopes of finding success. Every theme will begin with making a plan, then move on to the building & trials phase, then end with a final test. From egg drops and Rube Goldberg machines to earthquake simulators and tower challenges, there will be much to get excited about.


Simple Machines - Work and Play

(6-10 yrs.) Try six simple machines that operate alone or together to make work easier. Come experiment with wheels and axels, levers, inclined planes, pulleys, wedges and screws for a morning of fun work.


Summer Engineering Challenge

(6-11 yrs.) Use your critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities to engineer a solution for our secret seasonal challenge. Attack the design problem and work within the criteria and constraints to see if you can come up with the best solution.


WeDo Robotics (5-8 yrs.) by Vendor

(5-8 yrs.) In this Baroody Camps class, students use a curriculum powered by LEGO Educational group which includes fun robotics projects using LEGO bricks to build robots. Projects help students improve their math, physics and engineering skills while having a ton of fun.
