The Fairfax County Park Authority offers a variety of activities such as classes, camps and tours in a wide variety of categories including aquatics, fitness, nature, dance, outdoor recreation, performing arts, history and many more. Special events, trips/tours and specialty workshops are listed in Parktakes, the Park Authority’s quarterly guide, available through free subscription to county citizens. .

Archery I (13-Adult)

Learn archery basics by following the 11 Steps of Success taught in the USA Archery National Training System. Determine your dominate eye, develop your technique using a string bow, and practice international style target shooting using a recurve bow and a compound bow. Supply fee of $10 payable to instructor at first class.

This class teaches basic skills and game rules. Scrimmages give you experience preparing for league teams. Participants need to bring their own glove.


Basketball I (6-8 yrs)

Children learn basketball skills and techniques including passing, shooting, dribbling and other fundamentals. Class includes scrimmages to reinforce teamwork. Classes at Providence and Lake Accotink Park meet outdoors.

Basketball Position Workout (14-18 yrs)

Guards focus on ball handling and shooting. Forwards focus on rebounding and running the floor. Centers focus on footwork and pivot play.

Beginning Athletes in Team Sports (6-12)

Kids love this high-energy class that introduces them to a variety of sports each week including soccer, basketball, flag football and an assortment of other activities. Have lots of fun with teamwork as you learn new sports.

This course primarily uses the foil, a light sport weapon, and introduces the sabre (modern equivalent of the cavalry sword) and epee (modern equivalent of the rapier). An equipment fee of $49 is payable at the first class.

Cardio tennis pushes your fitness to a new level with a high-energy workout. This group activity features drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate high-energy skill workout. Students need a tennis racquet and 2 cans of balls.


Fun and Fundamental Tennis (10-14 yrs)

This small-group class, offered by First Serve Tennis, uses skill-building games to develop fundamental tennis strokes.

Game Time Basketball (10-13 yrs)

This coed class is a perfect complement to skill-building basketball classes and camps. Class focuses on core team concepts and game strategies, along with basketball fundamentals. Class incorporates full-court game play.

This U6 league is designed to introduce 5- and 6-year-olds to the sport of basketball and teach them the rules and basic game fundamentals.

Gymnastics for Girls (6-12 yrs)

Introduction to gymnastics through floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars, vaulting and springboard jumping. Low student-to- teacher ratio enhances the learning process.

Students will learn basic footwork, handwork and strategy with the two-handed longsword, rapier, dagger and Scottish broadsword. Fencing masks, jackets and safety-tipped practice swords are provided. An equipment rental fee of $49 is payable at first class.
