The Fairfax County Park Authority offers a variety of activities such as classes, camps and tours in a wide variety of categories including aquatics, fitness, nature, dance, outdoor recreation, performing arts, history and many more. Special events, trips/tours and specialty workshops are listed in Parktakes, the Park Authority’s quarterly guide, available through free subscription to county citizens. .

Archery I (13-Adult)

Learn archery basics by following the 11 Steps of Success taught in the USA Archery National Training System. Determine your dominate eye, develop your technique using a string bow, and practice international style target shooting using a recurve bow and a compound bow. Supply fee of $10 payable to instructor at first class.

Children learn basketball skills and techniques including passing, shooting, dribbling and other fundamentals. Class includes scrimmages to reinforce teamwork. Classes at Providence and Lake Accotink Park meet outdoors.

Basketball Position Workout (14-18 yrs)

Guards focus on ball handling and shooting. Forwards focus on rebounding and running the floor. Centers focus on footwork and pivot play.

Known as the physical game of chess, fencing provides a physical and mental workout for students of all athletic abilities. This course primarily uses the foil, a light sport weapon, and introduces the sabre (modern equivalent of the cavalry sword) and epee (modern equivalent of the rapier). An equipment fee of $49 is payable at the first class.

Cardio Tennis (Adults)

Cardio tennis pushes your fitness to a new level with a high-energy workout. This group activity features drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate high-energy skill workout. Students need a tennis racquet and 2 cans of balls.


Co-ed Basketball League (5-6 yrs)

This U6 league is designed to introduce 5- and 6-year-olds to basketball and to teach them the rules and basic game fundamentals. Fee includes uniform shirt.

This U7 league is for advanced 6- and 7-year-olds. Course introduces participants to basketball and teaches them the rules and basic game fundamentals. Fee includes uniform shirt.


Doubles Tennis (Adults)

Class focuses on both offensive and defensive doubles strategy and includes practical education to hone your skills. Students must bring a racquet and two cans of tennis balls to the first class.


Fencing I (8-Adult)

Prerequisite: Intro to Fencing or equivalent. Class focuses on techniques and includes foot work, body work and blade work.


Fun and Fundamental Tennis (7-10 yrs)

This small-group, First Serve Tennis class, uses skill-building games to develop fundamental tennis strokes.


Gymnastics for Boys (6-12 yrs)

Focuses on basic elements of men's gymnastics. Equipment varies at each site and may include rings, parallel bars, vault and floor skills, trampoline, tumble trak and rope climbs.


Gymnastics for Girls (5-7 yrs)

Skill-oriented class includes strength work, conditioning, beam, bars, floor and vault.


Gymnastics I (6-12 yrs)

Introduction to gymnastics through floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars, vaulting and springboard jumping. Low student-to- teacher ratio enhances the learning process.

Students learn basic footwork, handwork and strategy with the two-handed longsword, rapier, dagger and Scottish broadsword. Fencing masks, jackets and safety-tipped practice swords are provided. An equipment rental fee of $49 is payable at first class.
