(6-21 yrs.) This event is designed for participants with Autism and their families to learn about fishing. Learn how to fish together through basic fishing education and a guided fishing opportunity at Burke Lake Park. All equipment is provided. Participants 16 and older must have a valid VA fishing license. Family participation is required.
(9-13 yrs.) Develop archery skills using Olympic-style (recurve) bows. Through focused instruction, learn shooting techniques and attention to detail. Campers also enjoy mini-golf, nature hikes along the lakefront and other outdoor activities. Camp operation is subject to weather and is held at the archery field to the right as you enter the park. No camp July 3.
(13-Adult) Learn archery basics by following the 11 Steps of Success taught in the USA Archery National Training System. Determine your dominate eye, develop your technique using a string bow, and practice international style target shooting using a recurve bow and a compound bow.

This program satisfies all of the requirements to earn the Archery Merit Badge. There is no prework for this program.
(5-Adult) Learn about the different methods that can be used to cook over a campfire, as well as what types of food are best prepared using each cooking style. Then, practice building your own cooking fire. Stay for a demonstration and a snack around the campfire.
(5-Adult) Join us for an evening campfire the whole family can enjoy. Explore the wonders of our natural world through nature walks, interactive activities and animal presentations. Includes s’mores. Topics vary by date. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
(3-Adult) Enjoy a stroll along the lake shores and learn about the constellations, their stories and other night-sky features. Our astronomical naturalist will identify the stars and will have some telescopes to use. The program concludes with a campfire. S'mores ingredients provided. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
(5-Adult) Learn all about building a campfire. Practice starting a fire without matches and stay for a demonstration.
Add some cheer to your day with the Park Authority's carousels. Choose between classic charm and modern fun, featuring both moving and stationary seating. Children under 42 inches tall require a ticket, and one accompanying parent may stand for free. A second adult, or parents of children 42 inches or taller, will need tickets. All riders under age 18 must purchase tickets. Adults may stand but are not permitted to ride the carousel horses. Weight limit: 170 pounds.
