The Fairfax County Park Authority offers a variety of activities such as classes, camps and tours in a wide variety of categories including aquatics, fitness, nature, dance, outdoor recreation, performing arts, history and many more. Special events, trips/tours and specialty workshops are listed in Parktakes, the Park Authority’s quarterly guide, available through free subscription to county citizens. .

A Visit With Santa

(2-Adult) Bring your camera to take a picture with Santa in front of a real, open-hearth fire. Make a festive ornament to deck your own halls and enjoy some refreshments. Take a brisk wagon ride weather permitting. This is an ongoing event; Santa and wagon ride time slots based on arrival time.


BOO-stravaganza (3-8 yrs)

(3-8 yrs.) Celebrate the Halloween season with this outdoor event at the Kidwell Farm. Attendees enjoy a variety of themed games, go trick-or-treating to animals, and enjoy a wagon ride. Finish the evening with a small treat bag for the road. Reservations required.


Caroling Wagon Ride & Campfire

(4-Adult) Join us in song and exploration on a wagon ride. Warm up with s'mores at the campfire. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.


Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria, VA

(5-Adult) Includes motor coach, festival, and lunch. Enjoy the Apple Butter Festival featuring music and cloggers, wagon ride, scenic bus trip and Graves Mountain Lodge's delicious buffet luncheon. Bus pick-up/return schedule is: Lee District RECenter - depart 8:30 a.m., return 5:30 p.m.; Mason Government Center -depart 9 a.m., return 5 p.m., Fair Oaks Mall- depart 9:30 a.m., return 4:30 p.m. Trip cancelation deadline: September 26, 2019.


Halloween Adventure

(3-Adult) Join us at Riverbend Park for a Halloween Adventure. A festive wagon ride, complete with scarecrows, sweets and stories is followed by more stories and s'mores around the campfire.


Harvest Moon Wagon Ride

(4-Adult) Experience Frying Pan's pastoral landscape in the light of the moon! Enjoy a campfire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows on this cool, October evening. Sign up for a wagon ride time and enjoy the warmth of the fire before or after your ride. Fire and food will be set up from 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m. A registered adult is required to attend with all registered children. Minimum age to attend to 4 yrs.


Holidays at Walney Farm

(2-Adult) Celebrate the winter holidays with the Machen family at Walney Farm. Learn about the gifts and foods of an 1850 farm, create your own historic holiday ornament, take a wagon ride along the trails and enjoy hot apple cider and treats around a campfire.


Hot Dog, Smores! Wagon Ride & Campfire

(4-Adult) Meets at Cabell's Mill. Enjoy a turkey hot dog supper roasted over the campfire and a brisk wagon ride through the Rocky Run stream valley. Discover who Ellanor C. Lawrence was and learn about the areas local and natural history. We provide hot dogs, buns, condiments, and s'mores. Feel free to bring your own drinks and sides. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.


House of Reptiles and Night Ride

(4-Adult) Amazing reptiles call our park home. Play games, test your courage with a touch table and see these wonderful creatures up close. Calm your nerves by roasting s'mores at a campfire while listening to stories and then join us for a refreshing wagon ride through the autumn woods.
